As the new High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, I am proud to be representing the Greater Manchester High Sheriff's Police Trust, and am delighted to have been given this opportunity to support the Trust in its charitable activities and initiatives, which are assisting to improve many peoples’ lives across our great city.
Over the past year the Trust has contributed in excess of £257,000 into numerous crime reduction and community safety projects across Greater Manchester. Without the commitment of the Trust, many of these initiatives would otherwise have remained nothing more than a good idea.
During the last five months the Trust has been busy securing over 1,700 homes belonging to our vulnerable residents across Trafford and Rochdale with funding received through the Home Office Safer Homes fund. Residents benefiting from the scheme received enhanced security including door locks, window locks, door chains and door viewers, making them feel much safer in their own homes. The Trust has also been given the opportunity to assist Greater Manchester Police with their Payback scheme; a valuable initiative that utilises money confiscated from criminals through the Procees of Crime Act legislation, and puts it back into the community to support a variety of projects. Details of these projects can be found within our 'What's Happing in Your Area' section.
Our objectives are to promote a safer environment with increased quality of life through the prevention of crime. We aim to protect people and property from criminal acts, and by working together we aim to find practical solutions to the crime challenges that affect us all across Greater Manchester.
We believe that by working together we can find practical solutions to our region’s challenges and threat from crime, reduce social exclusion and bring about a lasting improvement to our environment.
